About Wildfire Gin
Wildfire Gin was established in 2024 in Stow in the Scottish Borders by James Varga and Jeremy Fraser. Friends who had worked together previously, they shared a love of the outdoors, adventure, business and a good gin and tonic. Inspired by Scotland’s landscapes, stories and spirit of exploration, they set out to create a Scottish spirits brand built around bold flavours, individual character and collaboration. The name Wildfire was partly inspired by Madge Wildfire, the unconventional character from Sir Walter Scott’s 1818 novel The Heart of Midlothian. Collaboration, people, places and adventures continue to shape and drive the brand forward.
Production
Rather than establish their own distillery, James Varga and Jeremy Fraser chose to collaborate with experienced Scottish distillers, allowing them to focus on brand development, storytelling and recipe creation. Their signature Madge Wildfire Gin was developed with Allan Walker, co-founder and head distiller at Selkirk Distillers, with the final gin launched in March 2024. Merchant’s Flame explored historic trade routes, long pepper, warming spices and bold citrus. Wildfire has also developed collaboration gins, including Cromlix Gin, created with Cromlix Hotel and master distiller Lewis Scothorn at Distillutions, and Wildfire Ascent, inspired by adventurer Sarah Armstrong.
