This gin is rightfully named and made in the heart of Aberdeen, in an old railway arch turned distillery. The label is tastefully illustrated to represent the story of Aberdeen.  There are also two lines on the watchstrap of the bottle, signifying the trains that travel above the distillery at the arch. When the bottle seal is broken, it looks like an old-style railway ticket. The gin itself was developed over a long period by co-founder and distiller Alan to achieve the ultimate signature gin, while he typically makes lots of seasonal and limited edition Scottish Gins for visitors to the distillery. Many of the signature trial recipes were even sent to and sampled by their loyal customers to provide valuable feedback on the final gin.

Tasting Notes

Flavours

  • Piney
  • Menthol
  • Floral
  • Citrus
  • Spiced
  • Sweet
  • Nose

Bright citrus and juniper to nose.

    Taste

Bright, inviting juniper with an echoing minty-floral expression of cardamom before leisurely moving towards a boastful central flavour of citrus-spice Moroccan coriander, jammy-pepper notes from red rose petals and delicate heather flowers with Scottish oat flakes, blue mallow flowers, luxurious caramel apple and of course the ultra-smooth premium organic alcohol.

    Finish

The gin concludes with a melody of spice notes from the all-spice and cassia offering a long yet delicate complexity.

    How to enjoy this gin

This gin can be enjoyed neat but served as a gin and tonic, it's best with just a splash on tonic and a citrus slice or twist. Or use as the base of a simple gin sour cocktail, adding lemon and lime juice and sugar syrup, shaken over ice.

    About City of Aberdeen Distillery

The idea for the City of Aberdeen Distillery goes back to 2013 when friends Alan Milne and Dan Barnett got chatting about beer and spirits. The friends, who both had a shared love of wine, beer, gin and spirits and met through the Aberdeen University Wine Society, felt it was about time Aberdeen had a distillery to call its own. A place that could produce gin and spirits that were influenced by the local area; include Aberdeen’s heritage and history but with a sprinkling of fun, humour and of course Doric, the local dialect. Based in a former store house in an arch under Aberdeen’s main railway line, Alan and Dan took the empty space and have fitted it out to accommodate both the distillery and gin school. One of the distillery’s mantras is “Made for Aberdeen, by Aberdeen”; The City of Aberdeen Distillery is proud to be reviving Aberdeen’s lost distilling heritage.

    Production

City of Aberdeen Distillery is the first legal distillery in Aberdeen for 80 years. The distillery and gin school are housed in a discreet railway arch just south of Aberdeen’s famous granite mile, Union Street. Located a short distance from the River Don, the former railway arch once stored goods that arrived by boat at the local harbour before being transported to the arch for storage. The distillery space features a working distillery along with the City of Aberdeen Distillery Gin School, where visitors can enjoy a gin making experience, tours and sample a range of experimental gins.
