Isle of Lewis Gin Leòdhas is the signature London Dry Scottish Gin from Isle of Lewis Gin. Leòdhas (the Gaelic name for Lewis) takes its inspiration from the island’s wild coastal landscapes and the rare Machair habitat that runs along parts of the Hebridean shoreline. The gin’s botanical profile reflects the flora of these coastal environments, delivering a balanced, aromatic spirit that aims to capture the character of the island itself.

Tasting Notes

Flavours

  • Citrus
  • Coastal
  • Earthy
  • Floral
  • Herbaceous
  • Piney
  • Nose

Fresh coastal aromas, led by crisp juniper and lifted citrus oils. Floral notes gently emerge, reminiscent of wildflowers found across the Hebridean Machair, accompanied by subtle herbal undertones and a clean, lightly earthy character that hints at the island’s windswept landscapes.

    Taste

Juniper at the core develops first, followed by bright citrus, then soft floral notes and green herbal complexity, balanced and elegant rather than overpowering, with delicate botanical layers building gradually across the palate.

    Finish

Gentle spice, soft floral sweetness, and a refreshing herbal dryness. The finish is clean and lightly aromatic, leaving a lingering impression of citrus peel, wild herbs, and classic juniper.

    How to enjoy this gin

A slice of lemon, sprig of thyme, ice and tonic.

    About Isle of Lewis Distillers

Husband and wife Iain and Laura Irvine had long dreamed of relocating to the Isle of Lewis. Although both were from mainland Scotland, Iain’s family roots are on the island, and years of holidays exploring the Outer Hebrides deepened their connection to its landscape and community. After marrying at Lews Castle in Stornoway in 2019, the couple made the move permanent in 2021. Inspired by the island’s Machair habitat and native flora, they began developing a gin that captured the character of Lewis. Initially distilled with Lost Loch Distillery using spring water from their home, production moved to their own island distillery in April 2025, with plans to eventually grow their own botanicals.

    Production

Isle of Lewis Gin Distillery is located in the small community of Uig on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. The name Uig is believed to derive from the Old Norse word Vík, meaning “a bay”, a reminder of the area’s Viking heritage and its dramatic coastal setting. The distillery is home to a 100-litre engineered copper pot still, the Brit Mini 100, built by Britstill. Every stage of the process, from distillation and production through to bottling, takes place at the distillery on the island. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the distillery’s facilities, increase production, and support further employment within the local community.
